Founded on 15 September 1977 and named for the Salvadoran national hero Jose Matias Delgado, the university isone of the most important private institutions in El Salvador. Conceived under the scheme of nonprofit work and with the aim of training professionals who have the ability to improve and manage the business and legal at the time. His ideology since its inception is to defend and develop the fundamental principles of free enterprise and liberal market economy. It started its academic activities with three faculties: Faculty of Law and Social Sciences Dr. Isidro Men ndez, Faculty of Culture and Fine Arts General Francisco Gavidia and Faculty of Economics, Business and Enterprise Dr. James I. Barberena.Located in a decentralized manner during their early years and geographically unified in 1986 when it began operating on the campus of Antiguo Cuscatlan, the campus still existing and in use, was later renamed Campus I because of the new campus opened in 2004, known as Campus II Merliot City area. Currently the university offers 19 degrees, 6 master’s and a variety of diplomas, taught by over 590 professors. Since its inception the university has been characterized as an institution that seeks to provide high quality education without neglecting his base in their students sound principles of professional ethics. All this is summarized in its motto which is “Cum Honore Omnia” ( “Everything with Honor”), which invites every student and professional values and practice formed to observe the moral principles protecting the integrity of human beings. Its current president is the renowned playwright and a doctorate in social sciences, Dr. David Escobar Galindo.
